I’ve been wanting to write about this for some time now, however, I must wait on the Lord. He lets me know when it’s time for me to write and what He wants me to write about. I find when I have something I want to write and I just can’t seem to do it, it’s because He has something He wants to show me. So, I wait.
More than three years, this subject has brewed within me. I recently started a series of articles, Who Are You?, Who God Says He Is, and I knew the last one would be Does God Exist? It was finally time. My intention was to write this article the week following Who God Says He Is, yet that did not happen. Something wasn’t right. I didn’t know what it was, but I knew I had to wait…again.
This morning, during my study time, it came to me. I finally realized what the problem was. The approach I had been focused on, while completely true and accurate, isn’t the heart of the matter – it’s the brain. I wanted to prove, scientifically to unbelievers, that God does exist. Isn’t that what unbelievers say…”there’s no evidence.” Yet, believers know the evidence is all around us, lives inside us, and regardless of the relentless attacks on our faith, we still believe. Why? Because we know the Truth. Believers use their heart and their brain. We are not ignorant. We’re not under some kind of spell. We are not being fooled by some type of euphoria. WE KNOW. God exists. Through His Holy Spirit, He lives inside us. We have a relationship with Him. We commune with Him. He guides and comforts us, and many other things. He is real, and we know. Our entire being knows.
True, to the unbeliever who only uses their brain, scientific fact may open their eyes just enough to spark a curiosity to want to know more. Because of that hope, I will share some evidence so that you may be led to Truth. Truth will activate your heart, and then you’ll understand.
Math & Science
Because of the nature of God’s creation, I like to say, “God created math and science.” Truth is, man calls these aspects of what he understands about God’s creation, math and science. Many humans have made math and science their god. Their intellect is so big, so important, they’ve completely dismissed God and chosen to only focus on what their brain can understand based on what they call “evidence.” So, I’ll use math and science.
Life and all of creation exists. That’s true. I don’t think anyone will argue against that. Life is here. You’re reading this right now, so you’re alive. The earth, the stars, all the celestial bodies exist. True. How did this happen? Those who do not believe in God, believe in some sort of magnificent spontaneous event. All the right ingredients somehow came together in all the right sequences all at once, and…LIFE! Okay. I’m not even going to address how those “ingredients” became ingredients in the first place or any of the other insurmountable flaws in that idea. I’m just going to deal with one tiny thing. Protein.
Protein is the ingredient in a cell that without, you would just be goo. Cells are the basic building blocks of all living things. They provide structure for the body, take in nutrients, make energy, fight illness, and many other things. Cells are made up of many things. Protein is just what I’m going to focus on.
We are made up of trillions of cells. 200 different types, doing different jobs.
The simplest cell we know of today, has more than 300 proteins.
Not one single functional protein has ever in the history of history of history formed on its own in nature. Please look this information up for yourself. I encourage you to do so. Protein cannot and will not form on its own. Even if we cheat, and we would have to, and give you the most perfect conditions – primordial ooze loaded with every amino acid, etc – not one single functional protein would form. Not one. Not ever.
I won’t even go into what it would take for all the other stuff needed to create a cell to somehow come floating along at just the right time. It’s way too much math and science, and what it comes down to is – it has never happened, and it will never happen.
There is quite literally no way for this to happen on its own in nature. That’s because it did not. The answer to, “How did this happen?” is God.
Have you ever seen a model of the DNA chain? I’m sure most of you have. If you haven’t, please look it up. It’s beautiful, intricate design is Divine. It’s no accident that it looks like the woven patterns created by knitting. As David said,
See the Light
I remember a time when the conventional minds said the earth was 3.5 billion years old. Now, most scientists say it’s 4.5 billion years old. Man also believed the world was flat at one time. That was the scientific belief. Man knows what he knows until he doesn’t.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding.
Proverbs 3:5
Now, I don’t care how old the earth is. I believe too many people get caught up in arguing about that. There are big flaws in how old the scientists say the earth is and that should be acknowledged. However, the actual age of the earth has no bearing on my belief in God or my salvation, so that’s a rabbit hole I’m happy not to go down. It’s interesting enough, but it doesn’t really matter. Although, I’m going to use it for this next bit of evidence.
NASA’s James Webb telescope is reaching into parts of the universe we’ve never seen before. It’s pretty amazing. It’s also punching some holes in the Big Bang Theory. We’re seeing things that are 4.6 billion light years away – that’s 13 billion years on man’s calendar. That means light from those celestial bodies would take 13 billion years to reach earth. We know the speed of light. That’s not the problem. The distance is accurate. You see the problem here, right? The math doesn’t add up. If the earth is 4.5 billion years old, how could we possibly see light from something 13 billion years away in what is considered the “newest” part of the universe. No doubt the scientific community will simply adjust the age of the earth to explain what they can’t understand. Man knows what he knows until he doesn’t.
Let me help you understand how we can see something billions of light years away. You can find it in the beginning.
God said it, and it was. Light everywhere all at once. You don’t have to understand it. It just is. You can math it all you want. The answer is God.
The Heart of the Matter
We believe in the existence of God because we know the Truth. It takes brains, yes, but it takes more of your heart. Our faith and belief are not unfounded. The evidence of God’s existence is everywhere. It IS the past, present, and future. We have the proof and we’ve accepted it.
Believers don’t need the scientific evidence laid out before them. It’s interesting, but not necessary. The Truth is all that’s needed.
Remember when Thomas said that he would not believe Jesus was resurrected until he saw with his own eyes? Many disciples had seen the Risen Savior and told Thomas about Him. Thomas had not seen Him yet. Then, Jesus appeared again, and Thomas was there. He told Thomas to touch Him so he would believe. Thomas immediately responded, “My Lord and my God!” (John 20:28). Jesus replied,
I believe and I have not seen Jesus in the flesh. I believe because I know the Truth. God, in fact, does exist.
