Truth Matters

For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Proverbs 2:6

I wish I had it all figured out. Well, I don’t. Some of you may think I just have all my ducks in a row, but most days I can’t even find my ducks much less get them to line up. My life is just like everyone else’s. I’m just doing the best I can do, and apparently, it takes me a long time to learn and understand things.

I start my day in the Word of the Lord. I prefer that time to be protected from distractions. I just want to contemplate on the Lord and what He has to teach me. I want to hear His voice and feel His spirit. I start my day grounded in His Truth so I’ll know the lies the world is filled with. The Truth strengthens me, feeds my soul, and brings me peace. I just can’t function properly without it. If anything happens and I’m not able to have my time with the Lord in the morning, I don’t feel right all day. Something is missing.

And yet, I still struggle.

I wrestle with doubt, worry, even fear. (Not concerning my salvation – I know I’m a child of God, and I don’t fear death.) You see – doubt, worry, fear, or whatever else you may deal with – are all part of the Christian journey. We’re human. We’re going to face these things, but knowing how to deal with them is what’s important. It’s how we deal with all things…by knowing the Truth. That’s why Truth matters.

  • Do you struggle to write what the Lord puts on your heart because you feel unworthy, or wonder who would want to hear anything you have to say, or think no one reads it anyway? (Now this has been an issue I struggled with. I’ll own that, but you can take your situation and insert it into that question.)
  • Are you burdened with your past?
  • Is it hard for you to pray?
  • Do feel like your life is on hold?
  • Are you having difficulty seeing the fruits of your salvation in your life?

I could write a hundred other questions, but they all have the same remedy:

The Truth is that if we ask for forgiveness, He gives it freely and keeps no record of our sins. So why do we? Psalm 103:12; 1 John 1:9; 1 Corinthians 13:5;

Carrying around the baggage of our past is one of Satan’s favorite weapons in his arsenal. If we can just stay mired down with doubt, fear, depression, whatever, then we won’t live in the fullness of God’s grace.

We have human brains. We can’t simply delete something we don’t want to remember. That’s why God wants us to be grounded in His Truth. When Paul prayed repeatedly for the Lord to remove the thing that bothered him, the Lord answered:

Trust Truth.

To know Truth, we must learn it. That takes study, prayer, experience, and fellowship. Through these things, we grow spiritually and become grounded in Truth.

Truth is the very foundation of life. It’s woven into the fabric of all things. Truth matters.

We live in a time when the very essence of Truth is questioned. We hear things like, “Her truth” or “Your truth” which leave the impression that Truth is fluid, or malleable in some way, or somehow changes. Well, that’s not Truth at all. Truth, by definition, excludes everything else. If it’s not true, then it’s a lie. There is only Truth.

These haphazard terms (her/your truth) would be better stated as “Her opinion” or “Your viewpoint”. Now, it might be Truth, but it might not be. However, humanity would better be served if we stopped throwing around the word “Truth” when we’re really talking about opinion or point of view.

I find it absolutely disgusting that Truth has lost its value in today’s society. There’s nothing more important than Truth, and millions are living with a skewed understanding of it. The consequences of which are endless and none of them are good. If you don’t have a solid foundation of Truth and understand that Truth exists, then you can be easily swayed by smooth talking peddlers of lies and just go whichever direction the wind blows. Which is what we see in much of society today.

Be careful that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit based on human tradition, based on the elements of the world, rather than Christ.

Colossians 2:8

Overcoming Satan’s lies is simple. All you need is God’s Truth. Everything must be held to the light of scripture.

Think you’re so awful God can’t forgive you, or you’re so dirty you could never be clean? That’s a lie and you need to stop living in the paralytic state believing those lies puts you in. Knowing the Truth, and who you are in that Truth will help you. One of my favorite songs right now, is crafted with lyrics that speak to this.

I wasn’t made to be tending a grave
I was called by name
Born and raised back to life again
I was made for more
So why would I make a bed in my shame
When a fountain of grace is running my way
I know I am Yours
And I was made for more

I Was Made For More / Josh Baldwin

Trust Truth.

Think you can’t walk the path God has laid before you, you’re too weak, you’re not ready, you’re filled with doubt? Pray. If God has given you a mission, He will give you the ability to fulfill it. Remember how Moses thought he couldn’t do what God asked, or Jeremiah, or countless others.

I am able to do all things through him who strengthens me.

Philippians 4:13

Trust Truth.

Whatever you’re facing, whatever you’re struggling with, knowing the Truth is your remedy. Get busy finding out what Truth is. You will grow closer to the Lord and in spiritual maturity.

Jesus IS Truth. Trust Him.

Truth matters. Oh yes it does.
