Right Where You Are
Little did I know the blessings God had in store for me when I decided to rejoin the workforce about two years ago. Oh, I knew full well His Divine intervention is what placed me here, although it seemed unlikely to me that I would be much good to my colleagues, not to mention how I could glorify God in this new line of work. That was all I wanted to do though – glorify God and in some way be a blessing to those I work with. Odds felt pretty slim Broadcast News would be the place the Lord would need me.

Is Pride Really a Problem for Christians?
Pride can affect the most spiritually sound and mature Christian. Its dangers are real, and it’s alive and thriving in our world.
It can create deep wounds that leave ugly scars.
Pride can have destructive repercussions that change your life and/or the lives of those around you forever.

In Part 1, we began to look at the power of pride. I asked you to complete a Self Examination to help expose any areas in your life where pride might be hiding. The exam was based on only 5 areas I chose to focus on. Pride can be hiding in many other places in your life. This examination was meant to provide you with food for thought.

I left teaching – for the second time – about two years ago. I was writing a lot on the blog and for a book, with a couple of other books stewing around between my brain and my husband’s. I was very passionate about my relationship with God and devoted to enriching that with study. I told my co-worker, Misty, that I felt like my job was getting in the way of my work. After praying about it, discussing it, and with the support of my husband, I quit my job in education with full intentions to… “Work full-time for Jesus,” as I responded to all who inquired.

When my son began to talk, he mispronounced many words and struggled to make certain sounds. Not out of the ordinary for a baby, and it was sweetly reminiscent of my little sister, Mary, who spoke with a slight lisp and chewed her words when she spoke in a way that mesmerized all she met. Mary’s little lisp was cute and captivating when she was a child, and she eventually grew out of it (for the most part – I can still hear it when she is really tired).

The Lion Inside
Quite possibly the best thing my oldest daughter, Dayton, has ever sent me is this picture of a domestic cat wearing a lion’s mane. Yeah…I’m easy to please. But just look at him there – wearing that mane like it’s just what he’s supposed to do. His eyes flash with confidence. He’s not the least bit unsettled. He’s not confused about who he is – there’s no identity crisis here. He’s a cat, and he knows it. He also knows he hails from the same biological family as the King of the Jungle. And so he dons the synthetic mane with pride and conviction of who he is on the inside. Continue reading The Lion Inside
The Most Important Thing My Mother Ever Taught Me
Not every lesson my mother tried to teach me went the way she planned. One such time happened when I was about 15 years old. Mom called my little sister, Mary (who was 12 at the time), and I into the room and told us to sit down…she wanted to have a talk with us. I remember vividly, my mind racing back and forth, wondering what in the world she wanted to talk to us about. Had something happened? Was someone sick? What is going on? It was a bit odd to say the least. Continue reading The Most Important Thing My Mother Ever Taught Me
