Jesus Lives!

Easter, or Resurrection Day – whichever you prefer – is upon us. The time when we celebrate our Risen Savior, remember what He did for us, and reflect on His sacrifice and what it means to the world.

When the World Changed

It was March 11, 2020 when the world changed.

That was the day a basketball game made the coronavirus pandemic real.

The Utah Jazz were in Oklahoma City getting ready to play the Thunder in a regular season game. The game never even started. Players were on the court, and tip-off was about to take place. Both teams went back into their locker rooms and the crowd was told the game had been postponed and asked to leave in an orderly fashion. We found out afterwards, it had been discovered that one of the Jazz players tested positive for the virus. About an hour and a half later, the NBA suspended the rest of the season.

Sculpting in the Storm

In the Hands of a Master

I am a great lover of Renaissance art.  As a teacher, this time period was one of my favorites to cover in my upper-level elective class.  I focused almost exclusively on 44 pieces I had chosen to weave the tale of this time line through.  Continue reading Sculpting in the Storm

My Dream Home

For we know that if our earthly house, a tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

2 Corinthians 5:1

I’ve seen a lot of houses in my life.  There are even shows on TV celebrating everything from the most over-the-top luxurious to the latest craze…tiny houses.  My own experience ranged from the stately 3-story home of my grandparents (dad’s side) to the little more than a shack that my Mamaw & Papaw (mom’s side) lived in.  My grandparents house is something I still dream about.  It was so big!  There were so many things to do and see.  Visiting there was like a wonderland adventure.   Continue reading My Dream Home

41 Hours to the Cross

More than 15 years ago now, I spent many days in a hospital room taking care of my mother when her time on earth was coming to an end.  I slept in the bed beside her, fed her, bathed her, washed her hair, helped her brush her teeth, massaged her neck, talked to her, watched over her, and tried to comfort her during her pain and confusion.  The emotions we all experienced during this time ran the gamut.  My mother had not gone into this hospital to die.  It was just another step in the process of getting her better, or so we thought.  None of us, me or my three siblings, misunderstood the severity of the cancer that ravaged her body.  Yet we were slow to accept the truth about how little time she had left.  The reality of that fact would weigh heavier on me than anything I had ever faced before.  So heavy, I all but crumbled beneath it. Faith Is All I’ve Got

Let not your heart be troubled

Let faith carry the day

God’s grace is more than sufficient

Give all your cares away

Lessons learned the hard way

Senseless works for naught

When faith is all that’s needed

And faith is all I’ve got

The Resurrection

Woman, why are you weeping?

Woman, who are you seeking?

A broken heart, life in despair

A joyful heart, my teacher’s here

Go tell the brethren, so they will know

That I was here, and I must go

To our FATHER, ascending high

To our LORD’s, sweet bye and bye

Before I go, remember this

Feed my sheep, is what I wish

Remember all I’ve shown to be

Faith, Hope, and Love, a gift from me

This Foggy Morning

Many people would consider a day like this, dreary, depressing, or even scary.  I find it beautiful and fascinating.  When the clouds lower themselves to be in among us, it’s ethereal.  The bible gives us many instances where God has dwelt among His people via cloud. Just Do It!

If I worked all day, every day, for the rest of my life, it would never be enough.  I, in my imperfection, my sin, my absolute ‘humanness’ could never do enough.  No matter how pure my intentions, or how true my heart, I can never reach this pinnacle I thought I had to reach in order to be able to serve the Lord.  I can’t wait until I’ve finally reached this level of Nirvana, that does not exist, to serve God.  I have to serve Him now. Have Thine Own Way

Have Thine own way Lord

Have Thine own way

Thou art the potter, I am the clay

Mold me and make me after Thy will

While I am waiting yielded and still

Lord, this is all I truly want.  For You to have Your will fulfilled in me.  Whatever You want me to do, wherever You want me to go, I want only that.  I am ready and willing to serve You, and I pray that You will use me to bring glory to Your great name.  Help me to know my calling.  To hear Your voice, and have no doubt.  To have the strength and the grace to pick up my cross and follow You.  These things I pray in Jesus Holy Name.

Amen
