The Lion Inside

Quite possibly the best thing my oldest daughter, Dayton, has ever sent me is this picture of a domestic cat wearing a lion’s mane.  Yeah…I’m easy to please.  But just look at him there – wearing that mane like it’s just what he’s supposed to do.  His eyes flash with confidence.  He’s not the least bit unsettled.  He’s not confused about who he is – there’s no identity crisis here.  He’s a cat, and he knows it.  He also knows he hails from the same biological family as the King of the Jungle.  And so he dons the synthetic mane with pride and conviction of who he is on the inside. A Divine Choice

One of my favorite stories to share with my history students in class has always been that of the Prussian ruler, Frederick the Great.  Frederick ruled in the 1700s.  He didn’t have a good relationship with his father.  I like to tell this story because a lot of teenagers can relate to difficult times in their relationships with their own fathers.  It also helps me connect with them the fact that they cannot blame their behavior on their past.  Regardless of the circumstances in which they were raised, or of any event they may have experienced, the decision is theirs, and theirs alone, how they behave.  They are 100% responsible for their actions.  End. The Resurrection

Woman, why are you weeping?

Woman, who are you seeking?

A broken heart, life in despair

A joyful heart, my teacher’s here

Go tell the brethren, so they will know

That I was here, and I must go

To our FATHER, ascending high

To our LORD’s, sweet bye and bye

Before I go, remember this

Feed my sheep, is what I wish

Remember all I’ve shown to be

Faith, Hope, and Love, a gift from me
